STandard
8.G.5 Use informal arguments to establish facts about the angle sum and exterior angle of triangles, about the angles created when parallel lines are cut by a transversal, and the angle-angle criterion for similarity of triangles.

1) Rewrite the standard in your own words. How does this assignment relate to the standard?
Standard 8.G.5 basically is trying to say to use everyday arguments to establish facts whether the pair of angles are congruent or supplementary. Also the ones that are created when parallel lines are cut by a transversal, along with A-A criterion of similar triangles, and the exterior angle of triangles. This assignment relates to the standard because we designed our own city that had streets that were parallel lines cut by a transversal & pair of buildings that were corresponding angles, alternate exterior angles, and etc... For example, we had our Super 8 gas station & McDonald's restaurant be alternate interior angles. This means that both of the buildings were inside the transversal line that cut the parallel lines, but they were on the opposite sides of the transversal.
2) What are the steps you took to complete and do well on this assignment?
These were the steps I took to complete and do well on this assignment.
1. My partner and I looked at our rubric from this assignment to get an understanding of the requirements to get full credit.
2. We did the street layout of our city called "Flanaramel".
3. We put our pair of buildings onto the city based on the type of angles they were suppose to be.
4. We named our streets & buildings randomly.
5. We drew & colored our decorations of our city "Flanaramel".
6. We double-checked our rubric and assignment to see if we missed anything.
3) This assignment demonstrates the following strengths...
This assignment demonstrates that I can create and tell the difference between different types of angles. Such as, consecutive interior, alternate interior, alternate exterior, corresponding, and other angles. I created corresponding angles between the 98 cent store and Caramelisianity church. They were on the same spot, but different lines. This shows that I can tell the difference between different types of angles also. Since, I know what is a corresponding angle and what isn't. A difference between consecutive interior angles and corresponding angles is that one is congruent and the other is supplementary.
4) I could have improved my work on this assignment by...
I could have improved my work on this assignment by making it much neater and creative. The labeling of the buildings and streets could have been much neater & organized without the use of arrows. Creativity in a much more complex layout of the city of "Flanaramel". Our layout didn't go too creative, but instead took a basic/simple path. Bu this I meant that it only had what the rubric was asking for and not beyond the rubric's expectations.
5) How will you apply the skills you learned from this assignment in either the real world when you are an adult or in other classes while you are still a student?
I would apply the knowledge of different types of angles I learned from this assignment in other classes in creating my project layouts. We get projects in other classes that involve a lot of organization of information. I would be able to organize my information into different sections that are parallel lines cut by transversals. I would arrange relatable chunks of information & pictures into corresponding angles, alternate interior angles, or etc... This would be a fun unique way to arrange information & pictures in other class projects, rather than a simple project layout.
